Jan McKinley’s second career has been as a custom clothier. She started her business in 1983 in Richmond Virginia by taking in sewing projects and alterations. This quickly grew into a fulltime job and her expertise in technique rapidly excelled.
Jan has college-level training in tailoring, pattern drafting and couture sewing technique. Over the years she has enjoyed teaching as a compliment to her clothing business. Originally, Jan taught teens during summer vacation. When she relocated to Denver, she was hired by Ann Hyde for the Design Institute held in Winter Park. She currently teaches private lessons and occasional seminars.
Jan is highly skilled in crafting clothing of all categories for people of all ages. She particularly enjoys creating new garments to a client’s specifications, and sewing garments that require specialized handwork, detailed stitching and couture embellishments.
