Member Meetings
We meet the third Monday of each month at 9:30 am at the Koelbel Library, 5955 South Holly Street, Littleton, Colorado. Our meetings are educational and business oriented. We help and encourage each other to achieve higher standards.
Bringing professionals together for ideas, information and inspiration. Custom fit and construction are our specialties and we want to make you look your best.
Non-members can come to two of our meetings–no charge–as our guest. Subsequent meetings are $7.50 each.
There are several benefits to being a member of the Colorado Chapter of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals. One of these is our monthly meetings where you can network with other sewing professionals. We have speakers several times during the year on a variety of topics relating to sewing from business tips to sewing techniques. We also take field trips to local places of interest related to sewing. Past field trips have been to Colorado State University to their newly opened museum, The Berry Patch in Niwot, quilting exhibit at the State Capitol, Molly Brown’s House, etc. We share information on resources which can be invaluable. Since our profession is such a solitary endeavor being able to meet on a monthly basis keeps us informed and educated.
Online Discussion Group
Another benefit of being a member of a national sewing organization is the online discussion group. Members from across the country discuss problems such as: clients and how to deal with them, specific fabric resources, business tips, techniques for specific garments whether it be bustling a bridal gown or altering a tailored jacket. If you have a question you can ask the group and receive an answer almost immediately.
Jurying Members’ Work
Our chapter is one of a very few in our association that juries members’ work. Since we are professionals our work should reflect the standards of a professional sewing organization. Members can be juried in many different categories from alterations to tailoring. Certificates are given for each category that you are successfully juried. Since formal educational programs for our profession are limited in the U.S., being juried is one way in which you can show potential clients your proficiency and your level of expertise. Being juried challenges your abilities to take your skills to the next level.
Members of the ASDP Colorado have been juried by their peers with in the frame work of the Standards of quality for Custom Clothing established by the National Assoc. of Sewing and Design Professionals. This ensures that the members continue to improve in their areas of expertise. This process is part of our goal to uphold high standards in the field of sewing and design. This ensures that our customers are satisfied with our services and our products.
